The Rose used to be a blood palace. My next door neighbours used to drink there in 1979.
Hi Laurie, "The Rose" has been 'done up'. I remember going to hear the all womens band 'Sheila' play there in 1977 - still pretty lowdown then. It was actually called "The Native Rose" until the late 90s. Remember?
Vagabond Press hosted a launch of my chapbook 'Drifting Topoi' there about 10 years ago on a Saturday afternoon. We were kind of squeezed into a corner and no one could hear the reading (no microphone) because the beer garden was filled with dozens of very happy Rugby League footy fans!
But here's hoping this one will be quieter for Ken & Bonny.
